Harry Potter is real.
We saw Hogwarts today. Harry Potter fans, don't be too jealous (Bonnie, Julie, and Angie especially). Yes, it's true. Today we saw the castle that inspired J.K. Rowling's creation of Hogwarts. We also went and ate the the very same cafe in which she began writing the story of Harry Potter on napkins. It doesn't end there. We also saw the gravestone in Grayfriar's graveyard that has the name "Thomas Riddle" on it, which gave J.K. Rowling the idea for "you know who's" own name and also his father's name. Hogwarts can be seen from the graveyard. So there you are. Harry Potter is real and our love for the series has doubled in just one wee day. I mean, really, what would life be like without Harry Potter?
After the Harry Potter wondefulness, aly told us all about Greyfrier's Bobby. It is a story about a little dog who went and guarded his master's grave for fourteen years after he died. The Dog was kind of adopted by the townspeople and bobby is now buried in Greyfrier's graveward (along with Thomas Riddle).
We also went on a Ghost Tour. Scary. Aparently Edinburgh is also called the city of the dead because so many crazy things have happened here. We went into the underground city where the very poor lived and were fed upon by all kinds of criminals. It was pretty creepy. Our ghost tour guide told us about a wallet in a museum made from the back of a man's hand, who was hung for murder. So, of course, we went to find it. It was really gross.
Alyson took us to find Adam Smith's (the father of economics) grave. After searching for about twenty minutes, we finally found it and realized too late the there were signs pointing to the location of his headstone, starting at the entrance. oops.
